About us

We are a group of three Oxford University students who have set ourselves this immense personal challenge for the benefit of this worthy children’s charity, the Variety Club.

Lennard Lee (24)

A 100m butterfly specialist who in July 2004 swam the English Channel in 9 hours 45 minutes.

"I’m studying medicine at Oxford University and start as a doctor in August. I’m hoping to beat David Walliams time across the Straits of Gibraltar, so less than 5 hours."

"I feel that it this is going to be a hard swim, made even more challenging because of all the sealife that there is out there. There are four species of man eating sharks in the Mediterranean and a large part of the swim will be about conquering irrational fear."

"What motivates me to complete the swim is to raise as much money as possible for the Variety Club. It is a great charity and really does make the lives of children much better".

Nicholas Berry (21)

A 400m front crawl specialist, who has previously swum in relay around the Straits of Gibraltar.

"I am currently in my fourth year reading physics at Magdalen College."

Harry Fisher (19)

A 100m backstroke specialist who consistently trains with his local club.

"I am currently in my second year studying material science at St Edmunds Hall."

"The hardest thing about the swim is having to lose my six pack to gain enough weight to keep warm"
